What is a property management system (PMS)?

A property management system (PMS) is the general category of software that helps short-term rental hosts run bookings, guest communication, pricing, and finances in one place, instead of spread across a spreadsheet, a notes app, and a folder of screenshots.

What the category actually covers

"PMS" spans a wide range in practice: on one end, simple single-property tools focused on bookkeeping and guest experience; on the other, full multi-property platforms built for large portfolios, with a built-in channel manager, dynamic pricing engines, and integrations with dozens of booking platforms. Most of that range is more than a host running one to five properties actually needs.

Where Hosts Assist fits

Hosts Assist is built for the smaller end of that range: hosts running one property up to a small portfolio, who want reliable bookkeeping, payout reconciliation, and a guest guidebook without paying for (or learning) the enterprise-scale channel management that a large operator needs.
